VIRGIN Blue says it is working with Queensland Health in relation to fears passengers may have been exposed to potentially deadly bacteria in chicken wraps.The investigation is confined to a supply of chicken wraps the airline received from a manufacturer between May and June 2009, which may have contained a bacteria known as Listeria.A Virgin Blue spokeswoman said it is believed that other southeast Queensland companies were also provided with the chicken wraps from the manufacturer.

A THRILL-seeker has set a new world record by in-line skating down a rollercoaster in Germany.Donning specially designed skates, Dirk Auer, 36, chose the Trips Drill theme park in Stuttgart, Germany, as the site for his daring feat.While speeding down the 860-metre rollercoaster Mr Auer, from Frankfurt, reached speeds of 85km/h.It took him just one minute to reach the end of the track.”This was a very dangerous stunt because there were so many factors to consider,” Mr Auer told The Sun.

A US tourist, a Scot and two Spanish nationals were injured yesterday during the first bull run of the San Fermin festival in Pamplona in northern Spain, organisers said.None of the injured were gored by a bull but fell while running through the narrow, twisting cobbled streets of the old town of the city pursued by the bulls, a spokeswoman for the festival said.The two Spanish nationals were aged 21 and 31, she added. The ages of the Scot and the American were not given.

KOALAS could be kept in the basement of a tired shopping centre alongside tacky souvenirs in a “shameless” grab for tourists’ cash.Under plans for the nation’s first permanently enclosed koala exhibit, up to three koalas would be kept behind glass beneath the Three Sisters Plaza in The Blue Mountains, New South Wales, and brought out for “photo and petting opportunities”, reports The Daily Telegraph.A North Sydney property investment firm wants the endangered species to be a major drawcard to the world-heritage listed Blue Mountains, famous for its eco-tourism.Blue Mountains City Council, which banned circuses in 1992, will make a move to outlaw native wildlife being held anywhere but in zoos after unanimously rejecting the plan. But the fate of the proposal lies before the Land and Environment Court, which has reserved its decision until later this year.

A SLANGING match has broken out between Jetstar and Air New Zealand after the Australian airline claimed its troubled Kiwi launch had been sabotaged by dirty tricks.The Qantas subsidiary has had a bumpy ride since the launch of its New Zealand schedule last month, with complaints of late and cancelled flights, rude staff and dozens of New Zealanders turned away for failing to check in early enough.The airlines started trading barbs after Jetstar chief executive Bruce Buchanan accused Air New Zealand of attempting to sabotage his airline, which has replaced Qantas in New Zealand with 84 domestic return flights a week.

The bodies of two swimmers who went missing last week have both been found and identified.Dave Ellams, a chef, and Lee Tompkins, a receptionist, went missing on June 23 after they had been drinking and waded into the sea near Birnbeck Pier in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.Two bodies were recovered by lifeboat teams from the River Severn on June 30.Avon and Somerset Police have now confirmed they have been formally identified as Mr Ellams and Mr Tompkins, both from Weston-super-Mare.

The £1 million London Bombing Memorial is due to be officially unveiled by the Prince of Wales on Tuesday, the fourth anniversary of the attacks.It has been designed as a “dignified and tranquil space” by two London-based architects, Kevin Carmody and Andrew Groarke, who have been working in close collaboration with the families of the 52 victims over the past two years.The architects, whose practice is only four years old, won the commission in an open competition.They have described the process of working with the families as “very intense” and said they were “enablers” of the memorial, as much as designers.

A GENEROUS dump of snow will greet hundreds of skiers this weekend and some resorts are nearing their booking capacity.More than 40cm of white flakes have carpeted the alpine resorts, prompting Perisher and Thredbo to open new terrain for the weekend.As the snow continues to fall, Thredbo has the Crackenback Supertrail open from Eagles Nest and Antons will open within days.Perisher will open Guthega tomorrow while Mt Perisher and Sun Valley are boot-deep in fresh snow, with around 70cm of snow fall in the past few days.The natural snow depth at Spencers Creek yesterday was 71.8cm, and more snowfalls are forecast to 1000m today. mostly clearing for the weekend but Falls Creek and Hotham did extremely well from the dump, as did little Selwyn Snowfields.Snowfall of up to 28cm blanketed Victoria’s alpine regions, creating perfect skiing and tobogganing conditions.Forecasts for freezing temperatures this weekend, from -1C to -6C, and southwesterly winds will ensure the snowfalls continue.
