WHITEY, the relocated saltwater crocodile which outraged locals after it moved into a north Queensland resort, has been caught.Sustainability Minister Andrew McNamara confirmed that Whitey – who decided to move to Magnetic Island after he was relocated from Bamaga to a Townsville creek – was no longer on the loose, The Courier-Mail reported.He said the crocodile was caught by Environmental Protection Agency officers early this morning in a lagoon on the western side of Magnetic Island.The croc was caught using a non-lethal harpoon and would now be taken to a crocodile farm or zoo, Mr McNamara said.Whitey gained notoriety yesterday after State Tourism Minister Desley Boyle has insisted crocodiles in urban areas are an attraction rather than a deterrent and can give cheap thrills to international tourists.Ms Boyle told Parliament in that crocodiles in waters close to populated areas lured tourists and provided them with photo opportunities.
